Michael Saunders returned to spring training with the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, looking to continue learning the game of baseball and working towards becoming a major league superstar. The “superstar” reference was made by Canada manager Ernie Whitt after the outfielder was named first-round MVP of Pool D at the World Baseball Classic in Phoenix. “He’s just a tremendous up-and-coming outfielder that’s going to be a superstar,” said Whitt of Saunders, who hit .727 (8-for-11) in three games with a home run, seven runs batted in, .769 on-base percentage and 1.273 slugging percentage.
